Ekurhuleni to take full control of 176 water accounts in major billing shift
Mar 5, 2025

The City of Ekurhuleni is set to migrate 176 water supply accounts from Rand Water to its own billing system by mid 2025.

The City of Ekurhuleni is set to transition 176 water supply accounts currently billed by Rand Water to its own billing system.
This move is part of a broader effort to improve water demand management and ensure compliance with South Africa’s Water Services Act (Act 108 of 1997).
Historically, some large-scale water users and domestic customers on the city’s periphery have been billed directly by Rand Water, limiting the city’s ability to effectively manage water supply and conservation.
The migration will centralise control under the City of Ekurhuleni, helping streamline service delivery and resource management.
City of Ekurhuleni’s spokesperson Zweli Dlamini assures residents there will be no disruption to services during the transition, which will be completed by June 30.
Starting on July 1, water and sanitation charges for affected customers will appear on their municipal bills.
The city’s approved tariff schedule, which is available on the Ekurhuleni website, will apply, with an updated tariff introduced every July in line with the financial year.
