I tested the Eero 7 and Pro 7 for two weeks, and I can’t go back to my old router
Mar 5, 2025
I was excited to test the new Eero 7 and Eero Pro 7 mesh Wi-Fi routers because I never quite liked the model I bought a few years ago. That flat, glossy piece of black plastic sports four spiky antennae and just always felt like something I accepted rather than something I wanted. And that’s the way it is for many folks I know. You might never think about having the best mesh Wi-Fi router when you just use the hardware your service provider gives you — as most of my colleagues said they do, by a large margin.
But if you think a router is merely a boring piece of tech that helps you use multiple devices at home, know that the right one could truly make a huge difference. I didn’t realize until this test that my previous setup was falling far below the internet speeds I’m paying for, and that the right router was all I needed to change that. That, dear readers, is why I’m excited to tell you all about how I tested the Eero 7 and 7 Pro, and why I’m not going back to my old router.
Eero's Wi-Fi 7 routers offered a speed boost when compared against our old Wi-Fi 6 router, and they're easier to use.
I maximized my home internet speeds with the Eero Pro 7, which was easy to upgrade to from the Eero 7.

What I liked about them

Solid speed boosts and reliable streaming

The Eero 7 and Eero Pro 7 are the Amazon-owned mesh router company’s latest devices that support the new Wi-Fi 7 standard, which succeeds Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E by offering increased speeds and bandwidth. In addition to what the below testing bore out, the biggest difference between the Eero 7 and Eero Pro 7 is that the latter opens up the 6 GHz radio frequency, giving capable devices more room to go fast. These aren’t Eero’s first Wi-Fi 7 routers, though, as they follow the ultra-premium Eero Max 7 that costs $600, offers twice as many Ethernet ports and covers an extra 500 square feet.
