The world of 2025 sure feels like it’s being run by Dr. Eggman, but thankfully, we still have a trans hero who can go fast.

Last week, video game modders in the Sonic the Hedgehog fan community released Unleashed Recompiled, an unofficial PC version of the 2008 title Sonic Unleashed. Days later, modder Lady Lunanova — herself a member of the Recompiled team — released her own “Trans Fem Sonic” mod for the new version, giving the beloved blue hedgehog a midriff-baring red jumpsuit (matching the character’s iconic shoes), a trans flag-colored armband, and of course, eyelashes so you know she’s a girl. Perhaps most importantly, the mod also features a complete set of new voice lines for the entire game performed by trans voice actor Larissa Frost (Rain: The Animated Series).

Lunanova’s mod, created with audio designer WaferKat, has received an outpouring of fan support in the short time it’s been listed on the popular modding site GameBanana. At time of writing, the mod has been downloaded nearly 1,900 times in the span of just three days. (While her mod specifically codes Sonic as a trans girl, another modder, DeadH0st, has also posted a mod to give Sonic top surgery scars.)
