Is this trending health tech really worth it?
Mar 7, 2025
Sure, the idea of a gadget that tracks your sleep, activity and lets you know how ready your body is to take on the world sounds great. But can a tiny ring really change my sleeping habits and shape how I view wellness? Spoiler alert: it’s not magic, but it might be the next best thing.
In a world of gadgets promising to help guide you on everything from your steps to your glucose levels, when the Oura Ring first launched, I’ll admit I wasn’t convinced of its ability to cut through the noise. But how wrong I was. I’ve been wearing my ring consistently for a few months now, and it’s completely changed how I understand my body, provided data that’s actually helpful and encouraged me to make small, achievable lifestyle changes for optimum health. Plus, as a jewellery advocate (the more, the merrier), it doesn’t look out of place with the rest of my stack – a win all round, in my opinion.
But it’s not just little old me who loves it. The Oura Ring has garnered a cult-like following with celebrities including Prince Harry, Jennifer Aniston and the queen of wellness trends, Gwyneth Paltrow, who have all been spotted with their own device.
So what does the Oura Ring do differently? Well, the insights are surprisingly easy to understand, for one. You don’t need to be a health and wellness fanatic to make sense of the data it presents you, but at the same time, the data is incredibly detailed. It’s like having a little sleep coach on your finger — except without the pep talks or unsolicited advice. Instead, it’s armed with data that might just help you figure out why you’re running on empty, or why you’re feeling ready to conquer your day.
