The following contains major spoilers for Suits LA Season 1, Episode 2, "Old Man Hanrahan," which debuted Sunday, March 2 on NBC.
Suits LA Season 1, Episode 2, "Old Man Hanrahan" keeps building out the Suits spinoff's world -- and further shows what it's lacking. The second episode does what it needs to do, in terms of adding further details and plot points to Ted Black's universe. But it doesn't resonate with the audience in the way that it could, as this new TV series is still trying to find its way, much like the newly renamed Black & Associates.
"Old Man Hanrahan" picks up where the Suits LA series premiere left off, with Ted and his ex-colleague Kevin working on Lester Thompson's murder case. Meanwhile, Erica Rollins and Rick Dodson go head-to-head for the first time with disastrous results. But mostly, this is an episode where everyone has the same problem, and no one seems to know how to fix it.

Viewers Learn a Few More Details About the Characters
Suits LA Season 1, Episode 2 has to start adding in little details to further build its world now that the basic premise and characters have been established, and it's successful in that regard. Viewers learn a number of things, some better than others. There's confirmation that Erica Rollins and Rick Dodson were romantically involved (but Stuart Lane, at least, didn't know about it). More details are given about how Stuart allied himself with Ted Black's ex-girlfriend Samantha Railsback. Ted name-drops Denzel Washington as one of his clients. The most head-scratching is Erica revealing she doesn't know much about movies and television, but became an entertainment lawyer anyway because she wanted to be "part of the action" in Los Angeles. That seems like pretty spurious reasoning.
