The Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa Law School is expected to open its doors in August this year. According to ZBC News, construction is on track with contractors confident of meeting the deadline. The project, part of Midlands State University, will be one of Africa’s largest law schools.
Workers are currently installing roofs on the main buildings. Over 300 local workers have been employed at the site. A Kwekwe resident shared that the job has provided valuable welding skills. Another worker expressed gratitude for the opportunity to gain construction experience.
The school will feature a state-of-the-art moot court for practical legal training. An e-library and modern lecture halls are also part of the design. Dr. Gift Manyatera, MSU’s acting vice-chancellor, confirmed the August completion date. He praised the government’s financial support for the project.
Midlands Minister Owen Ncube called the school a tribute to President Mnangagwa’s legal career. He highlighted Mnangagwa’s role in Zimbabwe’s constitutional reforms. This includes efforts to abolish the death penalty. Minister Ncube noted the school aligns with national development goals.
Information Minister Jenfan Muswere said the project reflects Zimbabwe’s commitment to education. He described it as a step toward decentralizing academic resources. The government plans to showcase the school to international media. This aims to counter misinformation about Zimbabwe’s progress.
