Mum Painfully Weeps as Daughter Is Sentenced to Death in Vietnam
Mar 12, 2025
In a heart-wrenching development, the family of Margaret Nduta Macharia, a 37-year-old Kenyan woman, is desperately seeking help as she faces a death sentence in Vietnam.
Convicted on 6 March 2025, Margaret was found guilty of possessing two kilograms of drugs after they were discovered hidden in her bag at Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport.
Despite her protests and claims of innocence, she is condemned under Vietnam’s strict drug laws and has been given only seven days to appeal.
Margaret maintained that a Kenyan man named John had requested her to deliver a suitcase to a woman, and that she was duly paid for her service.
Her grieving mother, Purity Wangari, tearfully pleaded, "I am pleading with the government to help bring my daughter back home, even if it means serving her sentence here."

According to Purity, Margaret had left Kenya in July 2023 with hopes of settling in Vietnam after securing employment.
A relative added that the family only has a couple of days left to appeal the verdict, urging swift governmental intervention.
In a related case, another Kenyan mother has also sought help to secure the release of her son, Stephen Munyakho, who is serving a lengthy sentence in Saudi Arabia for a murder conviction.
