Matuke Speaks Out on Rumored Affair with Mnangagwa, Shares Revelation
Mar 13, 2025
In a startling development that has set tongues wagging in Zimbabwe's political arena, Lovemore Matuke, the newly appointed Minister of State for National Security, has broken his silence on rumors surrounding his alleged close relationship with President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The political landscape in Zimbabwe was stirred by Matuke's recent appointment to the crucial security position, which had remained vacant for close to three years following the sudden dismissal of Owen Muda Ncube in January 2022.
The announcement of Matuke's appointment was made through an official statement by Martin Rushwaya, Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, citing constitutional regulations.
"In terms of Section 104 Subsection (1) as read with Section 225 of the Constitution, His Excellency, President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has appointed Honourable Lovemore Matuke, Senator, as the Minister of State for National Security with immediate effect," the statement read.
Political observers have noted the timing of Matuke's appointment, suggesting that it coincides with increased pressure on Mnangagwa to address constitutional requirements.
Reports from The Zimbabwe Mail highlighted comments made by opposition leader Nelson Chamisa, who expressed concern over the prolonged delay in filling the critical security position, emphasizing the importance of a functional and accountable security system in upholding democratic governance.
