Newly Promoted UPDF Officers Urged to Uphold Discipline and Hard Work
Mar 24, 2025
Lt Gen Kayanja Muhanga, the Commander Land Force, urged newly promoted Generals and Senior Officers of the Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces (UPDF) to remain disciplined, committed, and hardworking in order to achieve further career advancements.
While presiding over the promotion ceremony at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs headquarters in Mbuya, Lt Gen Muhanga stressed that promotions are a result of dedication, hard work, patriotism, passion for one's job, and consistent effort.
Lt Gen Muhanga highlighted the importance of discipline within the army, noting that some officers fall ill prematurely due to indiscipline, uncontrolled drinking, and a lack of physical exercise.
He advised the officers to be mindful of these challenges as they progress in their careers, stating, "Hard work and discipline are crucial. You can climb the ladder and reach the top, but if you lack discipline, you may fall."
The Commander also commended the Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, for his efforts in advancing the professionalization of the army. He pointed out significant projects, such as the construction of office structures, accommodation for soldiers, and the new Defence Headquarters, which is set to be completed in two years by the Engineers Brigade.
Lt Gen Muhanga took the opportunity to thank the spouses of the newly promoted officers for their sacrifices, particularly in supporting their families during deployments and training.
