HOT NEWS NOW|| Zimbabwe's Power Struggle Intensifies as Chiwenga Ditches Mnangagwa’s Iconic Scarf
Mar 27, 2025
Vice President Constantino Chiwenga and his wife, Minnie Baloyi, have ignited widespread debate following their recent trip to India, where Chiwenga’s choice of attire raised eyebrows. Instead of wearing the Zimbabwean flag-colored scarf that has become synonymous with President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Chiwenga opted for a striking red scarf. This unexpected change has fueled speculation among political analysts and citizens, with many questioning the possible message behind it.
In Zimbabwean political symbolism, red is often associated with sacrifice, bloodshed, and danger. Given Chiwenga’s influential role in the 2017 military coup that ousted Robert Mugabe and brought Mnangagwa to power, his choice of a red scarf has led some to believe it was more than just a fashion statement. Some observers suggest it could symbolize a warning, a call for help, or even a veiled message about the growing risks he faces within Zimbabwe’s political landscape.
Chiwenga’s decision comes at a time when many of his key military allies from the coup have died under suspicious circumstances. This has heightened concerns that he may fear being targeted next. His visit to India further deepened speculation, particularly when he was photographed near the ritually preserved remains of a revered Indian figure. Some have interpreted this imagery as a symbolic nod to mortality, sacrifice, or survival.
