Anyone claiming PIP urged to request vital form before DWP benefit changes
Apr 2, 2025
Major changes planned to the benefits system have left millions of households concerned about how they will be affected when eligibility criteria is tightened
People who rely on Personal Independence Payment (PIP) have been advised to check that they have a key document to help protect their benefits before the Government's overhaul.
Chancellor Rachel Reeves confirmed in the Spring Statement that eligibility requirements for PIP would be tightened from November 2026, as part of a series of planned changes to the benefits system in a bid to save an estimated £5 billion a year by the end of the decade. It's thought that around 800,000 PIP claimants will see their payments reduced.
Before this, benefit payments will rise in line with the September inflation rate, Work and Pensions Secretary Liz Kendall confirmed. The annual uprating on April 7 will see people on PIP or Adult Disability Payment (ADP) receive between £29.20 and £187.45 each week, amounting to £9,747 in extra cash help over the course of the 2025/26 financial year for people on the highest awards, the Daily Record reports.
However, the some 3.7 million people who receive PIP have been left concerned about how the widespread reforms to the disability benefits system will affect their support. Existing PIP claimants may find it harder to get the benefit if the proposed changes, which include stricter eligibility criteria for the daily living component of PIP, are passed by parliament.
