Target confirms it will close down all 1,978 stores for 24 hours in weeks leaving Walmart to scoop up business
Apr 2, 2025
TARGET has confirmed it will be participating in a shopping blackout in the coming weeks, shutting down all 1,978 of its stores for a full 24 hours.
As the retail giant shuts its doors nationwide for an upcoming spring holiday, Walmart will remain open to customers seeking last-minute groceries.
Easter, also known as Resurrection Sunday or Pascha, is a Christian holiday that marks the end of Lent.
The holiday is not a fixed date, but rather calculated based on the lunar cycle.
It falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the spring equinox, occurring between March 22 and April 25.
This year, Easter will be celebrated on Sunday, April 20.
As families around the US celebrate the holiday, a handful of retailers will also observe the day of festivities by closing down for the day.
Target is among the stores that will be closed this Easter, the retail giant confirmed to The U.S. Sun.
"Guests can expect regular store hours on April 19 and can check Target.com or the Target app for local store information," a Target spokesperson stated via email.
In addition to Easter, Target shoppers can expect the chain to be closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas.
