Real Madrid gets mixed injury news for huge Barcelona and Arsenal games
Apr 3, 2025

Real Madrid are dealing with two major new injury concerns ahead of their crucial Champions League clash with Arsenal and with the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona on the horizon

With the La Liga title race set to go down to the wire, a Copa del Rey final against Barcelona now secured, and a Champions League quarter-final against Arsenal approaching, Carlo Ancelotti’s side can ill afford any high-profile injuries.
Unfortunately, this is exactly what has occurred for Los Blancos, with goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois having recently suffered a muscle injury while warming up for a Belgian National Team game, forcing him to miss their last two games against Real Sociedad and Leganes.
Thankfully for Ancelotti, he has still had Ukrainian international Andriy Lunin to turn to in the Belgian’s absence - however, this looks set to change. Following Madrid’s 4-4 draw with Sociedad on Tuesday, which secured them a spot in the Copa del Rey final, it emerged that he had suffered a calf injury.
This setback could cause him to miss the next four weeks, although he could yet be given injections which could allow him to play as soon as April 5 when they host Valencia, as per Mario Cortegana. As of Thursday, Madrid has yet to rule either Lunin or Courtois out of their upcoming La Liga clash.
Depending on their injury status, it could mean either 19-year-old Fran Gonzalez or 20-year-old Sergio Mestre may make their debuts in the coming days with Valencia’s visit to the Santiago Bernabeu set to be followed by a quick trip to London on April 8 for the first leg of their Champions League tie.
