MYRTLE BEACH — Two Grand Strand communities are in line to get Hobby Lobby stores, according to plans filed with Horry County Government.
The plans, which are under review by county staff, show the arts and crafts giant coming to the redeveloped Inlet Square Mall on the South Strand and adding a location beside the Carolina Forest Walmart. Hobby Lobby already has a store in North Myrtle Beach.
Headquartered in Oklahoma, Hobby Lobby is the world's largest privately owned retailer of arts and crafts supplies, boasting more than 1,000 stores, according to the company's website. The company employs more than 46,000 people and operates in 48 states.
Along with an extensive crafting inventory, the stores carry wedding supplies, baskets, home decor, and items for jewelry making and picture framing.
A representative for Hobby Lobby could not be reached for comment. The plans for the Hobby Lobby at Inlet Square were submitted in December while those for the Carolina Forest store arrived in February.
The Murrells Inlet mall redevelopment is being spearheaded by Paramount Development Corp. Although a Paramount representative did not respond to messages seeking comment, swaths of the 35-year-old mall have already been razed. Paramount officials have said they plan to construct some new buildings, though they are keeping Belk and Planet Fitness.
