Kwame Asare Obeng (A Plus) Reveals MP Salary is Much Lower Than His Earnings as a Private Citizen

Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Gomoa Central Constituency in the Central Region, has openly discussed the financial challenges MPs face, revealing that he made more money in a single day as a private citizen than he does in a whole month as an MP.
In a candid interview with Adom FM, A Plus shared that, despite his role as a parliamentarian, his monthly net salary of Ghc 15,000 is much smaller than what he earned in his previous career. He stated, “Our salaries are too little. After all deductions are made, we are left with Ghc 15,000,” describing it as inadequate for the work MPs do.
Drawing from his past career as a musician and comic, A Plus reflected on the substantial income he earned before entering politics, particularly in the year 2020. He revealed that, during that period, his daily earnings surpassed his entire monthly salary as an MP. “When I look at my turnover for 2020, one of these days I’ll make my bank statement public…the amount of money I was making in a day was more than my entire salary as an MP,” he explained.
Despite his personal financial history, A Plus expressed admiration for his colleagues in Parliament, recognizing the hard work they put in despite the modest compensation.
