Bosnian Referee Irfan Peljto to Officiate Arsenal vs. Real Madrid Champions league Clash
Veteran Bosnian referee Irfan Peljto, a FIFA official since 2015, has been selected to oversee the highly anticipated Champions League quarterfinal match between Arsenal and Real Madrid at Emirates Stadium this Tuesday. The appointment marks a significant moment for Peljto, placing him at the center of one of the most crucial games in European soccer this season.
This isn’t Peljto’s frist encounter with Real Madrid. He previously officiated their Champions League Round of 16 match against RB Leipzig last year, a game the Spanish giants won 1-0. His experience in handling high-pressure situations will be crucial in maintaining control of this quarterfinal tie, noted former MLS referee Joe Machnik.

While this is only his second time refereeing real Madrid, Peljto has history with Arsenal, having taken charge of two of their Europa league group stage matches. Peljto’s resume also includes several notable appearances involving other Spanish teams. This year, he officiated a Champions League match for Barcelona against Royal Antwerp (a 3-0 victory), an Europa League match for Athletic Bilbao against Fenerbahce (a 2-0 victory), and a Nations League match for Spain against Switzerland (a 4-1 victory). He also refereed the 2020 U-19 European championship final, where Spain defeated Portugal 2-0.
