Multiple police units were sent to search the area
Police have issued an update on a five-year-old boy on a scooter who went missing in Swansea on Sunday. The child vanished while scooting at the Maritime Quarter around 11.30am.
It was reported to South Wales Police, which sent "multiple units" to search the area. What happened next was remarkable.
The five-year-old had made it all the way to Mumbles Pier – an estimated five and a half miles away from where he was last seen. Members of the public said they spotted him "riding very fast" on the scooter. Never miss a Swansea story by signing up to our newsletter here.
A statement for South Wales Police on Sunday read: "We would like to thank members of the public who assisted with a search for a missing child in Swansea this morning. The five year-old boy vanished on his scooter at 11.30am while visiting the Maritime Quarter with his family.
"Multiple police units were dispatched to search the area and thankfully, 40 minutes later, he was found and returned safely to his family. The boy had made it all the way to Mumbles pier, reported by members of the public who spoke to officers to be riding 'very fast' on his scooter. We just wanted to let everybody know the boy is safe and to thank all those who helped on behalf of officers and of course the family."
