Ranking the 11 Longest Unbeaten Runs in Premier League History
Apr 6, 2025
The Premier League has seen some of the best sides created and then go on long unbeaten runs, with some in the process achieving greatness. During the inaugural season of the Football League back in 1888/89, Preston North End completed the entire campaign unbeaten, a record that no club in England's top flight would emulate for the next 115 years.
Many thought at the time that it would never happen again before Arsenal's Invincibles came along. The Gunners remain the only side in Premier League history to avoid a single defeat throughout the whole campaign. However, the north London outfit are not the only club in the modern history of the division to have forgotten what a loss feels like.
Here's a closer look at the longest unbeaten runs in Premier League history, featuring the familiar roll call of legendary clubs and one or two unexpected vintages.

The Premier League has seen plenty of great teams in its long history but some clubs will be marvelled about for years to come.

12 Manchester United – 25

October 2016–April 2017

The first of two entries for the self-proclaimed 'special one' Jose Mourinho. This unbeaten run wasn't exactly a spectacular one as Manchester United drew 12 of the 25 games they went without defeat. Their run began after a 4-0 drubbing at a ground Mourinho knows very well, Stamford Bridge. Draws against the likes of Burnley, West Ham United and Everton were less than convincing. However, the sequence did include impressive wins over Tottenham Hotspur, and Mourinho got his revenge over Chelsea at Old Trafford with a 2-0 victory against his former club.
