Antoine Griezmann's uncertainty throws LAFC's transfer plans into disarray
Apr 8, 2025
American fans are hoping forward Antoine Griezmann makes a transfer to Major League Soccer this summer - with LAFC leading the race to sign the French World Cup winner
Atletico Madrid, Los Angeles FC, and soccer fans worldwide remain on tenterhooks as French legend Antoine Griezmann's future remains up in the air.
Under contract with the La Liga side through the summer of 2026, the 34-year-old has regularly been linked with a potential move away after the 2024/2025 season. Having flirted consistently with the prospect of a move to the MLS for some years, this looks increasingly likely to become a reality in the not-too-distant future, with LAFC having been advanced talks for the Frenchman in March, according to Relevo.
Should he make the move, he would reunite with long-time France teammates Hugo Lloris and Olivier Giroud, who won the U.S. Open Cup with the Black and Gold last season. However, while a proposed meeting between Griezmann and Atletico in March was expected to result in a final decision regarding whether he would see out his contract with the team, no such choice appears to have been made.
The saga recently appeared to be reaching its conclusion when it was claimed that Griezmann was likely going to remain in Madrid for one last season, as per ESPN. But a matter of days later, it emerged that chances were he would likely leave La Liga at the end of the ongoing campaign, according to Relevo, via Bein Sports.
