Funeral Turns Deadly As Four Killed In Violent Clash Between Youth Groups At Wiamoase
Apr 7, 2025
A tragic and violent confrontation between two communities in the Ashanti Region has resulted in the loss of four lives, leaving families in grief and raising urgent concerns about security and youth violence. The incident occurred during a funeral held at Wiamoase, a town in the Sekyere South District, where a group of young men from the neighboring town of Ntonso had gathered to attend the event.
According to preliminary reports from local sources and eyewitness accounts, tensions flared between the youth of Wiamoase and their counterparts from Ntonso during the course of the funeral. Though the exact cause of the disagreement remains unclear, observers suggest that a minor misunderstanding quickly escalated into a violent clash.
What began as a verbal altercation between a few individuals rapidly developed into a full-blown fight involving several young people from both towns. Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes, with members of the Ntonso group allegedly brandishing pistols and firing shots during the scuffle. Tragically, in the heat of the moment, two women who were present at the funeral were struck by gunfire. The severity of their injuries and the shock of the shooting ignited further outrage, particularly among the youth of Wiamoase.
The shooting of the women reportedly served as a major trigger for the retaliatory actions that followed. Fueled by anger and a desire to defend their own, a group of young men from Wiamoase are said to have quickly mobilized and armed themselves with machetes and other deadly weapons. In the ensuing melee, the Wiamoase youth launched a counterattack against the Ntonso group, which ended in bloodshed.
