Solo Leveling Season 2 Was a Second Awakening For the Series and a Wake-Up Call For the Anime Industry
Apr 7, 2025
At the start of Solo Leveling Season 2, Sung Jinwoo was the weakest-of-the-weak E Rank Hunter. At least, that’s what his official Hunter license said. In reality, he was a False Ranker who had already grown exponentially more powerful thanks to the mysterious abilities of the System – a fact that only a select few were even aware of. By the end of Season 2, Sung Jinwoo is an officially recognized S Rank who has singlehandedly cleared an S Rank Gate — a feat only achieved by the strongest Hunters in the world. Solo Leveling Season 2 started out as a highly anticipated series, but like Sung Jinwoo, not many realized the innate potential it really had.
By the end of Season 2, though, it officially revealed its true power as one of the biggest anime in the world, and deservedly so. As popular as Solo Leveling has become by the end of Season 2, it’s likely the series will be more divisive than the first season ever was. Solo Leveling Season 2 has unapologetically embraced its identity as a pure power fantasy whose main draw is intense, beautifully animated action, which won’t be for everyone. The occasional tinge of horror, a subtle blooming romance, or Jinwoo's inner conflicts are all just inessential extras. Now that Sung Jinwoo has become one of the strongest Hunters on the planet, Solo Leveling Season 2 sought to show him off in all his edgy, anti-hero glory, and it has paid off.
