An NHS hospital has been criticised for “shameless” posters displayed in a public area which called Reform UK “a danger to us all”. Homerton Hospital in London displayed posters which appeared to be from the activist group Stand Up to Racism outside the entrance to the building’s public canteen.
According to Homerton NHS Foundation Trust, the posters were removed last week before reappearing on the noticeboard. They have since been taken down again after the Daily Express contacted the trust. The posters claimed Reform UK “whips up Islamophobia” and “threatens everyone except the very rich elite”.
They continued to say the party “looks with admiration at fascists in Europe” and “exploits ordinary people’s anger”. They accused Reform of blaming the cost-of-living crisis on “refugees, Muslims and migrants”, adding that the party “wants to destroy” the NHS and is “riddled with racism, sexism, homophobia, bigotry – and some of the most extreme views”.
In a “Meet the Monsters” section, one poster provides detailed information on Reform’s MPs, including Rupert Lowe, who has had the whip removed. It said party leader Nigel Farage “claims he is a man of the people and yet he is a stockbroker who went to Dulwich College” and “his father is a stockbroker too”.
Speaking to the Daily Express, a hospital staff member who wishes to remain anonymous said: “I am fed up with this. A place like a hospital should not have political messages on its walls, it should be neutral. When I read those messages, it makes me feel like the hospital trust has a certain political opinion, and that makes you feel uncomfortable.”
