Embattled Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has dragged her colleague, Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi, to court over comments she described as defamatory and damaging to her reputation.

In a lawsuit filed at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, Akpoti-Uduaghan, through her legal team led by Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), M.J. Numa, is demanding N5 billion in damages over what she termed as “false, malicious and injurious” statements made by Nwaebonyi during a live broadcast.

According to court documents, the defendant, who represents Ebonyi North Senatorial District and serves as Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, appeared on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme on March 6, 2025, where he made a series of damaging allegations.

He reportedly described Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan as a “gold digger,” a “habitual liar,” and a “habitual blackmailer.”

He also allegedly claimed that she had “six children for different men,” and that her husband, Chief Emmanuel Uduaghan, married her “under duress.”

Reacting through her suit, Akpoti-Uduaghan stated that these allegations were baseless and calculated to destroy her character in the eyes of the public.

“These statements were broadcast nationally and rebroadcast across multiple online and social media platforms, thus ensuring wide publication,” the claimant stated in the suit.
