Yossi Benayoun: Former Chelsea, Arsenal Star Survives Grenade Attack
Apr 8, 2025
Former Chelsea attacking midfielder Yossi Benayoun has survived a terrifying grenade attack while relaxing at his home in Israel.
The 44-year-old Israel international, who joined Stamford Bridge from Anfield in July 2010, made 24 appearances over three seasons, scoring one goal for the Blues.
The ex-Arsenal star who also played for the Hammers was in the house when a motorcyclist from nowhere pulled up outside his compound.
The unidentified attacker launched the lethal device at Benayoun’s front door, resulting in an explosion and fire, then quickly escaped the scene.
In response to the incident, firefighters and police officers were alerted and responded immediately, extinguishing the blaze.
While the fire caused significant damage to Benayoun’s house, the good news is that no one was injured.
Benayoun speaks out after surviving grenade explosion
According to the Sun, Benayoun stated that he believed it was a case of mistaken identity.
He explained that he had no doubt the grenade was not meant for his house. Initially, he thought it was a gas cylinder explosion, so they called the fire department.
It was only when the police arrived and found the remains of a grenade that they realized what had truly happened.
Benayoun stated, "I’m sure it was a case of mistaken identity. The grenade wasn’t aimed at my house. At first, I believed it was a gas cylinder explosion, and that’s why we contacted the fire department. It wasn't until the police arrived and discovered the grenade parts that we understood what had occurred."
