Celtic want positions strengthened and the manager will have a few thoughts on the areas he needs.

The Hoops might need as many as seven spots at least looked into by recruitment chief Paul Tisdale and his staff but perhaps one of those players has already been identified.

Kasper Schmeichel won’t play forever and at 38 he’s coming towards the end of his career while Vil Sinisalo is still to be fine-tuned as a Celtic number one.

So Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka has today been named as a stopper who has re-emerged on Celtic’s radar following last summer’s interest.

The Newcastle Chronicle claim Celtic are “keen” on the experienced Slovakian goalie who played at the Euros with his country as recently as last year.

Dubravka has only played 16 matches this season for the Magpies in all competitions but he did just recently sign a contract extension at St James’ Park which prevents him leaving on a free.

The 36-year-old has managed eight clean sheets in that time under manager Eddie Howe and has shown his worth when Nick Pope has been injured and out of the team.

Last summer there were a whole host of goalkeepers linked with Celtic as they sought a Joe Hart replacement before Schmeichel was the man brought to the club.
