SSC-Khaatumo vows to secure Somali PM's visit to Las Anod, rejects Somaliland warnings
Apr 9, 2025
Las Anod (HOL) – The SSC-Khaatumo administration has asserted full responsibility for the security of Somali Prime Minister Hamse Abdi Barre during his upcoming visit to Las Anod, amid growing tensions following warnings from the Somaliland administration.
SSC-Khaatumo's Minister of Information, Najib Barkhadle Warsame, dismissed remarks made by Somaliland's Minister of Information, Ahmed Yasin Sheikh Ali Ayaanle, who accused the federal government of provoking conflict by planning the high-level visit to a disputed region.
"This statement is baseless, and it is possible that the Minister made that statement due to lack of information," said Minister Najib. "If we had even 1% doubt about our territorial control, we would not have extended any invitations. We are fully capable of ensuring the Prime Minister's safety in SSC-Khaatumo."
He added that SSC-Khaatumo forces are well-prepared and have the capacity to welcome all federal leaders. "Minister Ayaanle has no understanding of the strength or readiness of our forces," he noted.
On Monday, Somaliland's Information Minister warned that Prime Minister Barre's planned visit was a "deliberate provocation" and an attempt to export Somalia's internal crises into Somaliland. He declared that Las Anod remains part of Somaliland's territory and warned of possible consequences if the visit proceeds.
