H.E. President Jacob Zuma Welcomes Mam’Portia Mahlangu to the MK Party
Johannesburg, South Africa – In a significant move, H.E. President Jacob Zuma, former President of South Africa, officially welcomed Mam’Portia Mahlangu to the MK Party, a political entity rooted in the legacy of South Africa's liberation struggle.
Mam’Portia Mahlangu, niece of the late Solomon Kalushi Mahlangu – a revered uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) veteran and freedom fighter – now takes her place within the MK Party. Solomon Mahlangu, a hero of the anti-apartheid movement, was executed by the apartheid regime in 1979, cementing his status as a martyr for the nation’s struggle for freedom. Mam’Portia’s entrance into the party carries profound significance, not only because of her familial ties to such a pivotal figure, but also because of her continued commitment to the values her uncle fought for.
In a heartfelt statement, President Zuma expressed his full support for Mam’Portia’s decision, acknowledging the legacy of resistance her family has carried. “Today, we celebrate Mam’Portia's arrival into the MK Party, a move that strengthens the connection between the new generation and the sacrifices of those who gave their lives for our freedom,” said President Zuma.
Mam’Portia joins the party with the strong backing of her father, Chief Lucas Mahlangu, a prominent figure in his own right who continues to uphold the values of the struggle. Her decision to join the MK Party represents not only her personal journey but also her commitment to preserving the revolutionary spirit of uMkhonto weSizwe for future generations.
