Keeping Up Appearances first graced our screens in 1990 - with Dame Patricia Routledge keeping the nation in stitches with Hyacinth Bucket's hilarious one-liners

Hyacinth Bucket, or Hyacinth 'Bouquet' as we should pronounce it, first graced our screens back in 1990 portrayed by Dame Patricia Routledge.
It's been more than three decades since the British sitcom classic left our lives - but the show is still fondly remembered by fans. Back in 1990, the comedy aired for the first time on BBC One and quickly became a hit with viewers.
Created and written by Roy Clarke, Keeping Up Appearances would go on to dominate telly schedules from 1990 to 1995, detailing the turbulent and chaotic life of the inimitable Hyacinth, who aspired to work her way up in the social ladder.
Her long-suffering husband Richard, portrayed by Clive Swift, was often left picking up the pieces, and, of course, was always doing as he was instructed to.
It was a constant battle between her middle-class background and higher aspirations to impress the rich and famous. Her worst nightmare was often needing dealt with, if her family from the wrong side of the tracks dared to turn up on her doorstep.
Although no longer airing on screens, fans can still catch up with the old beloved episodes on ITV. The show aired a total of five series, four christmas specials, and one short Children in Need special.
