Unlike many twist endings in Hollywood projects, the events of Black Mirror season 7's "USS Callister" sequel "Into Infinity" weren't simply all in Capt. Nanette Cole's (Cristin Milioti) head. In the end, however, its characters were definitely locked up inside her cranium. Now, let us (and writer-creator Charlie Brooker) explain.
The episode ends with Cole's life being fused together with the lives of her digitally-cloned Callister Inc. gaming company peers for the foreseeable future after being uploaded from the Infinity game into Cole's consciousness. Brooker tells Entertainment Weekly that the episode's conclusion feels "deliciously absurd," but that he and director Toby Haynes (who also helmed "USS Callister" in 2017) initially had another conclusion in mind, one which tied things up with a more "unequivocally 'hip, hip, hooray' ending" to the story.
