Every Named Tribute in the 50th Hunger Games, Ranked by Death Order
Apr 11, 2025
The following contains spoilers for Sunrise on the Reaping, now available in bookstores.
With the release of the new Hunger Games novel, Sunrise on the Reaping, fans finally got to read about the 50th Hunger Games. This was a special Hunger Games, being the Second Quarter Quell, involving twice the number of tributes, with two boys and two girls being chosen from each District. While fans knew that Haymitch Abernathy would be the victor, given that he is still alive by the events of the original story, Suzanne Collins managed to tell a compelling story, revealing that there was more to the Second Quarter Quell than originally thought.
A major theme in Sunrise on the Reaping is the power of propaganda, with the 50th Hunger Games being very different on Capitol TV than what actually took place in the arena. The book also reveals that Haymitch was involved in a plot to break the arena, which Katniss Everdeen succeeded in doing in the 75th Hunger Games. While Haymitch ultimately failed to break the arena, the 50th Hunger Games was certainly one of the most chaotic and unprecedented games readers got to experience, and will surely make for a great film.
