We love Apple’s AirTags as an easy and reliable way to keep tabs on our keys, valuables and even pets, but at $29 for a single tracker and $99 for a four-pack, Apple’s beloved Bluetooth trackers don’t come cheap. Hundreds of people are buying this thing every month, so it’s gotta be good… right? Well, after purchasing one for myself, the answer is yes and no.

There’s a lot to like about these affordable dupes. They offer nearly all of the same tracking features that AirTags do, and even have one neat advantage over Apple’s more expensive tags. However, after testing out Reyke’s tags for a week, it’s clear that some major corners were cut to reach this low price. Here’s what you give up by going off-brand.

While they make a few concessions for their lower price, Reyke’s smart tags have one big advantage over Apple’s AirTags: there’s a big ol’ hole cut into the top of them. These cheap item finders have keyring loops built right into their design, and Reyke even throws in a set of keyrings so that you can instantly affix them to your carabiner, backpack, luggage or anything else you’d want to hang a tracker on. AirTags, on the other hand, pretty much require you to buy a separate AirTags case if you want to actually attach them to anything.
