Doctor says one food is more deadly than smoking and leads to 'early death'
Apr 12, 2025

Dr Chris van Tulleken, who has been working as an infectious diseases specialist since 2005, has warned that one food is more dangerous than smoking and leads to early death

A doctor has dropped a bombshell during a chat on the popular 'Diary of a CEO' podcast, hosted by Steven Bartlett. Doctor Chris van Tulleken revealed a startling comparison, suggesting that one food we often consume could be deadlier than smoking itself.
As an infectious diseases specialist and BBC science presenter, Dr Chris isn't the only van Tulleken making waves with health knowledge; his twin brother, Dr Xand van Tulleken, is also a familiar face on shows including 'BBC Morning Live'.
During the discussion about his book 'Ultra-Processed People,' Dr Chris delved into our complex dietary choices: "For a very long time, we have been incredibly confused about what to eat.
"We've called the foods that harm us junk food and processed food - high fat, salt and sugar food. We've not had a way of labelling food even as a pandemic of disease taken over the world."
The repercussions of a poor diet are felt worldwide and hit hardest among the financially challenged, as Dr Chris highlighted: "This is particularly true in low income countries and particularly true with low income people living in the UK", reports the Mirror.
