President William Ruto has been put to task over his government’s handling of Butere Girls High School students in Nakuru county during the Kenya National Drama and Film Festival.
What did Wajackoyah, Sifuna say about Butere Girls?
The students were teargassed due to a contentious play, Echoes of War, written by former Ruto ally and Kakamega senator, Cleophas Malala.
During the burial of Raila Odinga’s bodyguard, George Oduor, on Saturday, April 12, two leaders asked the president to rein in his juniors.
First was Orange Democratic Movement Party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna.

Sifuna acknowledged how hard being the president was, but noted that some problems were caused by his camp.
“Your work is hard, but there are things that your juniors bring upon themselves. There are people whose job is to get handballs every other time.”
Sifuna cited the Butere Girls incident as a point in case.
“Those involved are making your work hard, read them the riot act.”
Sifuna also called for the president to ensure that the ODM party gets funds as per the constitution.
“When we signed a memorandum of understanding with the United Democratic Alliance, we agreed to respect laws, including those governing parties.
A week before the ODM elections, I got a letter from the registrar of political parties saying the cut our budget by KSh 42 million It makes our work hard.”
