Japanese '80%' eating rule that could help you lose weight

One common eating rule in Japan has been shown to potentially support weight loss and a longer life
One eating rule common in Japan and some other Asian countries could aid you in your weight loss journey. 'Hara hachi bun me' refers to eating your food until you're 80% full, with the Japanese phrase translating to eating until 'you are eight parts full".
This simple eating rule focuses more on the quantity of food a person eats, rather than the actual type of food they eat. This basic form of calorie restriction could help you significantly lose weight and even improve your health in some circumstances. The eating rule is also popular in the Japanese Okinawa island which is famous for its residents living a long, healthy, and happy life.
Beacuse of the dieting rule in Okinawa, it is believed that residents historically consumed up to just 1,900 calories per day, resulting in a significantly lower BMI in older people when compared to people in other parts of the world. This means the rule helps to work in-line with common advice in weight loss, with the NHS suggesting people cut their calories by roughly 600kcal a day to see healthy and consistent weight loss.
This would mean men who need around 2,500 calories a day would consume no more than 1,900kcal while women who need 2,000 calories a day on average would consumer no more than 1,400 kcal a day.
