"Mwiba Wakujidunga Hauna Pole" What Sifuna Boldly Told Ruto at Oduor's Burial On Butere Girls Play
Apr 12, 2025
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, speaking at the burial of Raila Odinga’s long-serving aide George Oduor in Siaya County, strongly condemned the recent teargassing of Butere Girls students over their banned play Echoes of War.
He decried the intimidation that forced the students to withdraw from the national drama festivals, saying such actions suppress free expression. Sifuna emphasized that artistic voices, especially from students, should be proteted—not silenced.
With President William Ruto in attendance, Sifuna boldly addressed the ongoing political pact between Ruto and Raila. He declared that the agreement must be respected and all its terms fulfilled, including the full allocation of Ksh 450 billion to counties.
He warned against reducing the figure to Ksh 405 billion, telling Suna East MP Junet Mohamed to remain vigilant. Sifuna added, “Mwiba wa kujidunga hauna pole,” suggesting that some in Ruto’s government were undermining him from within, despite the President’s presence at the event.
