St. John Bosco scores six runs in the first two innings and holds Santa Margarita to three hits
BELLFLOWER – St. John Bosco’s baseball team used a five-run second inning and solid pitching to dominate Santa Margarita in a 6-1 win Friday in a Trinity League game at St. John Bosco High.
The Braves (13-4, 5-1) took the rubber match of the three-game series after the teams split the first two meetings this week. Bosco is in sole possession of first place.
They jumped out to an early 6-0 lead and never let the Eagles (11-7, 3-3) put together a comeback bid.
Braves junior Noah Everly made his first start on the mound this season. He started off a little shaky with two walks and a wild pitch in the first inning, but got out of the jam and threw a scoreless frame in the first inning.
Everly said he found out Thursday that he would get to make his first start.
“I got the call yesterday,” Everly said. “I’m a primary fielder, outfielder, this whole (season). That’s what I’ve been working on. They gave me the call, they said, ‘You want the ball?’ I said, ‘Hell yeah I want the ball.’ I got it done, gave them what I had.”
Everly pitched the first two innings and didn’t allow any hits or runs, although he did give up two walks, hit a batter and threw a wild pitch.
He also contributed at the plate.
