The Adidas Stan Smith Low Pro is working flat out
Apr 12, 2025
We've been blessed with many a Stan Smith over the past five decades, but the new Adidas Stan Smith Low Pro is a world first.
In the race for the ultimate flat-soled sneaker, Adidas has unwrapped its latest contender with the Stan Smith Low Pro. Going head-to-head with the likes of the Nike Cortez and the Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66, this silhouette has been revealed in two colour combos, including ‘Footwear White’ and ‘Core Black.’
While the top half of the trainer looks almost identical to the classic model (it's got the six-eyelet lacing system and perforations across the sidewalls), everything along the bottom half has been redesigned from the ground up. Gone is the rubber midsole in favour of a super flat one that's literally a few millimetres thin. Inspired by track shoes from the days of yore, this apparently gives runners a better “feel” for the terrain beneath them.
This special Stan Smith has a secret, too. Look around the back, and you'll find that the heel is collapsible, meaning you can wear these as a pair of sandals if you live life that way. Hong Kong streetwear label Clot was the first to introduce this idea with last year's Gazelle ‘Linen Khaki.’ And, by the looks of it, the German sportswear company liked it a lot.
And this isn't the only new flat-soled shoe to be introduced this season. One month ago, Vans revealed its own take with the very similarly named Super Lowpro. And Puma recently did the same with a refreshed version of its Speedcat OG.
