Football fans are holding their breath that Mary Fowler hasn't suffered a serious injury after the Matildas star limped off during Manchester City's loss to Manchester United in the FA Cup. Fowler went down with a knee injury as City had their final attempt at winning some silverware this season dashed.

Fowler limped off just 20 minutes into the semi-final clash as City went down 2-0 at home. The Australian star required several minutes of treatment on the Joie Stadium pitch after she appeared to wrench her right knee while overstretching for the ball.

Teammates were seen looking on anxiously from the stands, including a number who have suffered ACL injuries. There are fears Fowler might have suffered the same fate, with ACL injuries prevalent in the women's game.

Sam Kerr did her ACL in January of 2024 and hasn't played in over 14 months. But City manager Nick Cushing provided a hopeful update after the match, saying they're "not fearing the worst."

Yet he admitted: "It doesn't look great imminently. To lose Mary Fowler in an important game at an early stage, and to lose a goal, was catastrophic. It is her knee. I don't want to speculate, but we're not fearing the worst."
