iPadOS 19 Could Bring Apple's Biggest iPad Update In Years: Here's What We Know So Far
Apr 15, 2025
Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) 2025 is just around the corner, and all eyes are on the next wave of updates coming to the company's software lineup across iPhone, iPad, Mac, and beyond.
While many of the hyped Apple Intelligence features from last year are still awaiting rollout, this year's focus appears to be shifting towards a broader software refresh.
According to a report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, iPadOS is expected to take centre stage this time. Apple is said to be doubling down on productivity, multitasking, and enhanced app window management-pushing the iPad's interface to behave more like a Mac. The aim? To finally bridge the gap between iPad hardware, which already features Apple's cutting-edge M4 chips (and a rumoured M5 update later this year), and software that's historically lagged behind.
But it's not just the iPad getting a makeover. iPhones and Macs are reportedly in line for a significant OS redesign as well. Apple is working on bringing visual consistency across its platforms, including updated icons, redesigned menus, more cohesive apps, and streamlined system buttons. While the systems will still remain distinct-Apple isn't merging iOS and macOS-there's a clear intent to make the experience across devices feel more unified.
Internally, these changes are being treated as major updates. The redesigns tied to iOS 19 and iPadOS 19 are reportedly codenamed "Luck," while the macOS 16 update goes by "Cheer." Gurman suggests this will be the most notable upgrade to macOS since 2020, and the biggest iOS redesign since version 17 launched back in 2013.
