Peter Obi, the Labour Party' s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately end his current retreat in France and return to Nigeria to confront the growing wave of insecurity plaguing the country. In a message posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, Obi expressed deep concern over the rising cases of violence and criminal activity nationwide, stressing that the absence of effective governance has worsened the crisis.

Obi criticized both President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for being out of the country simultaneously during such a critical time, describing their actions as lacking the basic common sense expected from leaders. He emphasized that a nation as troubled as Nigeria requires its top leaders to be present and proactive, especially when citizens are being killed almost daily. He lamented that in just two weeks, over 150 Nigerians have been killed, particularly in violence- stricken areas like Plateau and Zamfara states.

He questioned the nature of the retreat Tinubu is attending in France, pointing out the irony of seeking solutions abroad when the host country already enjoys internal peace and stability— a stark contrast to the bloodshed and chaos unfolding in Nigeria. Obi described the situation as one where the head of a troubled corporation has abandoned the company' s headquarters to attend a retreat abroad while the company is on the verge of collapse.
