16 Disturbing Movie Scenes That, For One Reason Or Another, I Am Still Unable To Watch
Apr 16, 2025

We all have those scenes that, for one reason or another, we just can't face. Whether they're gross, scary, or just super uncomfortable, there are certain moments in movies we always look away from.

NBC

Here are 16 scenes that I conveniently close my eyes for when they come around...

Content Warning: This post contains descriptions of distressing and disturbing scenes, along with potential spoilers for the films mentioned.

The baby scene in Trainspotting

PolyGram Filmed Entertainment
Every time I watch Trainspotting I'm looking out for two scenes – this one and the toilet scene. The toilet scene is grim, but also relatively silly. This one, however, is just so horrible and tragic. The reality of the situation, the way it's shot, the reaction from Susan Vidler as Allison... It all adds up to a pretty disturbing watch.

The hammer scene in Misery

Columbia Pictures
Looking away during this scene doesn't event alleviate much of what makes it hard to watch because, for me anyway, it's the sound of those bones crunching that turn my stomach. Weirdly enough, I think the fact that they didn't opt to stick to the novel's version (where Annie cuts Paul's foot off), made it more horrifying. We often so blood everywhere in films, but the crunch of the sledge hammer for some reason got me more.
