Insider shares how Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney feel about sacking Phil Parkinson this summer
Apr 16, 2025
Phil Parkinson is on course for a third-straight promotion with Wrexham, who find themselves in 2nd place of the League One table.
Phil Parkinson has propelled Wrexham up the Football League since arriving as manager in 2021, guiding them to promotion from the National League and then from League Two last season, with promotion from League One now on the cards.
Last time out, Wrexham drew 0-0 with Wigan Athletic but remain a point ahead of Wycombe Wanderers in 3rd, now with just four games left to play.
Parkinson expects a close finish in the promotion race with one of Wrexham and Wycombe bound to join Birmingham City in securing automatic promotion to the Championship. But stabilising in the Championship will be Wrexham’s biggest challenge yet.
Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney trust in Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson
Speaking to Wrexham Insider, expert Graeme Bailey has revealed that Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney remain convinced by Parkinson’s ability to manage the club beyond League One, praising their willingness to leave the footballing side of matters to those with expertise in the matter.
Bailey explained to us: “Wrexham trust Phil Parkinson and let’s not forget he has experience in the Championship. But let’s not forget he knows what relegation teams look like at that level, they will trust his views on this squad, that is the beauty of the Rob and Ryan ownership, and they should be applauded for this, they don’t interfere like that – they don’t pretend to know what a good footballer looks like.”
