What is the 'goo' in a Cadbury Creme Egg? Truth revealed as Easter weekend sees sales soar
Apr 16, 2025

A Cadbury Crème Egg is one of the most popular chocolate treats for Brits, well, we get through 400million a year. But have you ever wondered what the 'goo' really is? We've done some digging

Easter weekend is upon us and that means it's time to devour chocolate in egg-form. Nothing quite beats indulging in the hollow chocolatey treats, ramming a golden bunny in one's gob and gobbling a Crème Egg in the name of, um, Christ.
While many will think about the sacrifice Jesus made, his death and resurrection, others might think about what exactly is the 'goo' inside one of Cadbury's classic products.
Well, we know people have the egg on their minds as plenty have been chatting on social media about it. The mighty Crème Egg is one of Britain's most-loved sweet treats as Cadbury's parent company, Mondelez International, unveiled that around 400million Crème Eggs are sold in the UK each year.
No wonder why chocolate-loving Brits are so invested in the foil-wrapped sweet treat! One baffled X user wrote: "I have a huge problem weighing on my mind: what is the substance in the middle of a Crème Egg called? What is it? A goo?"
Another baffled Brit asked: "I have a question. What is the goo made from in a Crème Egg?"
Well, we thought we'd save you the hassle and do some investigating for you. It turns out that the two chocolate shell halves are filled with a soft fondant.
