Kenyans, do not fall for this imposter Facebook page impersonating financing company M-Kopa
Apr 17, 2025
IN SHORT: This Facebook page with thousands of followers poses as an asset finance company offering easy credit for motorbikes. But beware, the page and the offers are fake.
Kenyans looking to venture into the motorbike taxi industry can now own motorbikes by paying a deposit of between KSh8,700 and KSh15,000 (about US$66.7 and US$114.9) and a daily instalment of KSh150 (about US$1.1). This is according to the Facebook page M.Kopa loans motorbikes.
The page uses the name of M-Kopa, an asset finance company operating in Kenya and four other African countries. It also uses images of people, presumably M-Kopa employees and customers, at its premises. The company’s logo and slogan are clearly visible in some images.
According to the page, the motorbikes are uniquely designed and have an upgraded security feature to prevent theft.
It boasts over 34,000 followers and its adverts have been republisheddozens of times across Facebook groups.
But can the page be trusted? We checked.

Signs of an imposter

Despite having a huge following, the page does not link to any website. This means potential clients have no access to information about the nature of its business. The page asks interested users to apply via WhatsApp or call the phone number listed. These are signs that it may not be legit.
