Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has made a strong statement about the future of the Electoral Commission (EC) leadership following the party’s victory in the 2024 general elections.

Speaking boldly during an interview on Radio Gold, Asiedu Nketia called for the removal of the EC’s top officials, making it clear that the NDC’s win does not excuse the Commission’s past actions. He took credit for initiating the conversation about replacing high-ranking officials at key state institutions, including the EC and the Auditor General.

“I was the one who started the conversation about removing top officials in state institutions, including the Electoral Commission,” he said.

Asiedu Nketia did not hold back in his criticism of the EC Chairperson, Mrs. Jean Mensa, calling for her dismissal along with her deputies. “Winning the 2024 election does not turn Mrs. Jean Mensa into an angel. If it were up to me alone, she should be removed along with the entire leadership of the Electoral Commission,” he added.

Mrs. Jean Mensa, a well-respected barrister, has chaired the EC since 2018. She is supported by two deputies: Dr. Bossman Eric Asare, the former Head of the Political Science Department at the University of Ghana, and Mr. Samuel Tettey, a seasoned EC veteran with years of experience in electoral services.
