Time 100 Most Influential 2025: Reshma Kewalramani has been honored as one of the 100 most influential people of 2025 by Time magazine. The Indian-origin Kewalramani is helming a large, public U.S. biotechonology company known as ‘Vertex Pharmaceuticals’. She is also the first female CEO of the company.

Reshma’s journey to the top management of the large, public US company is a testament of resilience, determination and struggle. Coming from immigrant Indian-origin family, she climbed the corporate ladder by sheer hard work and dedication.

According to Time Magazine, under her leadership, “Vertex secured the first-ever FDA approval for a CRISPR-based therapy, which treats sickle cell disease by correcting patients’ own DNA mutations."

Reshma Kewalramani was born in Bombay, India. She and her family immigrated to the US when she was 11 years old.

She completed the General Management Program at Harvard Business School in 2015. She holds a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) from Boston University, having completed the Seven Year Liberal Arts/Medical Education Program from 1990 to 1998.

Reshma Kewalramani currently serves as the CEO and President of Vertex Pharmaceuticals, a position she has held since April 2020. This role marks over five years of her leadership at the company. Prior to this, she was the Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer from April 2018 to April 2020, and before that, she was the Senior Vice President from February 2017 to April 2018. All these roles have been based in Boston.
