As Chuy’s moves, we remember 8 Dallas restaurants that changed the Knox neighborhood
Apr 18, 2025

It’s the end of an era for casual food on Dallas’ Knox Street, now one of the most upscale retail districts in North Texas.

After more than 30 years serving queso, tacos and margaritas, Chuy’s Tex-Mex in Dallas will close after dinner on April 19, 2025, on McKinney Avenue near Knox Street.
The restaurant will move and reopen April 28, 2025, in a new neighborhood, at 1520 Greenville Ave., near a stretch of restaurants and bars in East Dallas’ Lower Greenville area.
The restaurant’s relocation, just two miles away, is a bigger restaurant with twice the parking.
Chuy’s departure marks another casual-restaurant casualty on Knox as it clears a path for more development — a 12-story office building. The once-quiet block on the edges of Highland Park and Uptown Dallas has catapulted into one of the hottest in the city.

“Knox is on fire now,” said Ray Washburne, an investor.
Michael Dell’s family investment firm, MSD Capital of New York, and Dallas-based real estate firms The Retail Connection and Trammell Crow Co. bought 13 acres on and around Knox Street, including the 4-acre plot that includes Chuy’s. Highland Park Village Associates is managing and leasing the properties in the district.
