But don't let this trail runner fool you the nearly 2000 ft of elevation gain and roughly three miles is not exactly *** piece of cake. However, getting here will be *** small slice of heaven and it's this particular spot just below the summit that I like to call *** penthouse in the sky wedged under an overhanging roof with *** man made rock wall as *** small hideaway just big enough to fit *** few to sit and soak in the views originally named Mount Stanford in the late 18 hundreds. Castle Peak stands at 9109 ft of elevation. The unique castle like turrets near the summit are visual formations dating back to the volcanic activity that helped shape this range millions of years ago. This peak has been also called one of the snowiest spots in the lower 48 states where snow can remain on the trails well into summer and whether you sneak away into this penthouse in the sky or you decide to stretch your legs on the summit above the view from either speaks for itself.
