REACTIONS: Peter Obi visits Rome To Pay Final Respect To Late Pope Francis
Apr 23, 2025
Peter Obi, the candidate for the presidency of the Labour Party in 2023, made the announcement on Wednesday that he had been to Rome in order to pay his last respects to Pope Francis, who had passed away. During a post that he made on X, Obi stated that he was present at St. Peter' s Basilica alongside Francis Cardinal Arinze and other leaders and mourning from around the world.
As stated by Obi in the post titled " Legacy of Light: What Pope Francis Taught the World, " the ceremony in which the Pope was laid to rest was a time for profound introspection. " Pope Francis was more than a Pontiff; he was a moral light in a world darkened by inequality and indifference, " he wrote. " He was a moral light in a world. . . " The way he lived his life was a demonstration of the sacred nature of leadership, which is founded on compassion, truth, and service to those who are disadvantaged and marginalised. He was a man who lived for others, who advocated for those who had no voice, and who reminded all of us that leadership should be about elevating others rather than elevating oneself.
" I came to truly appreciate what he stood for after my appointment as a member of Scholars Occultantes, " he stated. " Scholars Occultantes is an international circle of thinkers that he founded during his time as Archbishop. " He continued by saying that the institution has always been committed to advocating for social justice, ethical leadership, and the truth. Obi claims that his encounter with the late Pope, which took place before the Pope' s death, was a godsend for him and left an imprint on him that will last a lifetime. " His presence was a calm yet powerful reminder of the divine responsibility that comes with leadership.
