Saudi Arabia’s ‘Sleeping Prince’ Prince Al-Waleed Marks 36th Birthday After Nearly Two Decades in Coma
Apr 28, 2025
Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal, famously known as Saudi Arabia’s ‘Sleeping Prince,’ quietly celebrated his 36th birthday on April 18, 2025, while still in a coma nearly 20 years after a tragic accident changed his life forever.
In 2005, while studying at a military college in London, Prince Al-Waleed suffered a severe brain haemorrhage from a devastating car crash. Since then, he has remained on life support at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Despite repeated medical advice to disconnect life support, his father, Prince Khaled bin Talal, has consistently refused, holding steadfast to the belief that God’s will could still bring his son back.
“If God had wanted him to die in the accident, he would have been in his grave now,” Prince Khaled once stated, reaffirming his unwavering hope.
Over the years, Prince Al-Waleed has shown slight, occasional signs of responsiveness, such as subtle finger movements and head shifts, though he has yet to regain full consciousness. His family continues to offer him tireless support, believing in the possibility of a miracle.
This year, the prince’s birthday sparked a wave of love and prayers across social media. Supporters from around the world posted heartfelt messages and throwback photos honoring the young royal’s life and journey.
